DR. JOHN W. ÁLVAREZ DE LORENZANA
ADDICTION PHYSICIAN & COUNSELLOR MD CCFP MA RCC

Dr. John W. Álvarez de Lorenzana is a pragmatist with a passion for medicine, psychology and mysticism. His practice specializes in working with health professionals addressing concerns such as burnout, compassion fatigue, existential/spiritual crisis and addiction. John’s medical work and counselling practice are separate entities.

John received his Doctor of Medicine in 2012 from McMaster University and is currently a clinical instructor for the UBC Faculty of Medicine. His medical practice is primarily focused on addiction medicine, nurse and physician health & wellness as well as medical learner resilience. He is a strong advocate for self-care and institutional reform in medicine. 

John completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2001 and his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2008 at UBC. He is also a dedicated Dharma practitioner, Mindfulness Meditation teacher and Kundalini Yoga instructor.
