John is a pragmatist with a passion for psychology, medicine and mysticism. He specializes in working with health professionals addressing concerns such as burnout, compassion fatigue, meaninglessness and addiction. Services for Health Professionals include individual counselling, peer support group counselling, aftercare and accountability groups, both online and in-person.

Apart from Health Professionals, John has expertise in the areas of love, attraction and intimate relationships. He works best with clients who are motivated to make lasting change and incorporate the bio-psycho-social-spiritual dimensions of life into their treatment.

John received his Doctor of Medicine in 2012 from McMaster University and is currently a clinical instructor for the UBC Faculty of Medicine. His medical practice is primarily focused on addiction medicine, physician health and medical learner resilience. He is a strong advocate for self-care and institutional reform in medicine. John completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2001 and his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2008 at UBC. John is a dedicated Dharma practitioner, Mindfulness Meditation teacher and Kundalini Yoga instructor. 

John’s medical work and counselling practice are separate entities. Ongoing counselling is not currently supported by MSP in BC. Please contact your extended health plan provider before your first session to ensure that your plan covers the Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation.
